Full and Partial Dentures in Royal Oak, MI
Missing teeth are both an aesthetic and a health concern for most people. If you’re missing teeth, you know first-hand the effect that this can have on your life. Chewing food becomes challenging, and your speech changes. A social stigma is also attached to missing teeth, and, sadly, you may have noticed people treating you differently.
You want solutions.
You can find those solutions at Family Dentistry of Royal Oak.
Royal Oak dentist Dr. Suchi Chalasani DMD has experience fitting patients for partials and dentures. You can count on her to provide an honest assessment and to collaborate with you to create a care plan that may include dentures or partials for missing teeth.
Modern, Realistic-Looking Dentures
If the only experience you’ve had with dentures is seeing older models with their blocky teeth and unnaturally pink gums, you might be amazed to see the partials and dentures that are now available thanks to updated techniques and technology.
Today’s dentures and partials are made with individually crafted and placed teeth that not only look exactly like the real thing but are also placed in such a way that small variations exist – the key to mimicking natural tooth placement.
The teeth are colored to resemble the natural shade of teeth, and the color of the gum portion is carefully mixed to match your own. With today’s dentures and partials, most people will never know your secret.
An Array of Partial and Denture Options
We can fit you for a range of different types of dentures. We’ll discuss the various styles and options with you to help you decide on the type of dentures that are right for you.
One option that our patients who are missing only a few teeth appreciate is the aesthetic metal-free partial denture. This option uses artificial teeth to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth, and the framework blends in perfectly so nobody can tell.
Another popular option today is dentures that are held in place using dental implants. These are called implant-retained dentures, and they combine the best features of both dental implants and dentures, making them a more cost-effective permanent tooth replacement option.
Caring for Your New Dentures
Once we send you home with your new partials or dentures, it’s up to you to take good care of your appliance so that it will look good and fit securely for a long time. We’ll provide you with specific home-care instructions based on the style of denture you are using, but you should follow these general rules if you are wearing a removable partial or denture:
- Remove the partial or denture for cleaning every day and only use a brush and cleanser that is designed specifically for dentures.
- Any time your appliance is out of your mouth, keep it moist. If your appliance dries out, it may warp.
- Your appliance may also lose its shape if it is exposed to hot water. Only rinse and clean your appliance with cool or lukewarm water.
- If you accidentally drop your appliance, call our office for an appointment so that we can check the fit and make sure it hasn’t been damaged in a way that you can’t see. A damaged partial or denture won’t fit properly and may cause injury to your gums.
If you are interested in being fitted for partials or dentures or you want to replace your old appliance with a new state-of-the-art appliance, call our office today to schedule your appointment with Dr. Chalasani.
